Fiji Mellow Yellow

Dive site review by Anna Clague

This is one of those sites that definitely improves with current. The abundant yellow soft corals really bloom and fluff up in moving water. Combine them with a host of yellow and golden hard corals and you can see where the sites name comes from.
The site is a pinnacle that rises to just below the surface with a decent sized side ledge at about 16m. When the current is running you will still be able to find a sheltered side to this dive site where you can mellow out and explore the cracks and crevices looking for critters that hide here. All manner of Shrimp and Crabs live here as well as Pipehorses, Nudis, Leaffish and more. If you are lucky you might even find a Turtle resting in the reef.
Meanwhile, on the prevailing current side of the Pinn, look out for hunting Jacks, Sharks and Barracuda. Big schools of Anthias and Basslets will be wafting in and out from the reef into the current to feed on passing morsels. This is the side of the Pinn where you will find the big Gorgonian Fans and other filter feeding hard corals growing fat in the current and you might even spot the odd Jelly flying by.
