Dive Site Review by Anna Clague

Black Magic Mountain has been a favourite Fiji dive site of mine over the last few years of diving with Ra Divers out of Volivoli. The site is a very simple pinnacle dive with each buddy team able to descend to their agreed max depth and then spiral up the pinnacle to end on top at a perfect safety stop depth.
There are all sorts of nooks, cracks and mini ledges for you to look into with an abundance of macro wildlife to find - Shrimps, Nudis, Pipefish, Leaffish. The rock is covered from top to bottom with corals of all shapes, sizes and variations making perfect habitats for a plethora of colourful schooling reef fishes, including beautiful purple and pink Anthias and orange Basslets. As the bigger hunters like Big Eye Jacks and Barracudas dart in and out of the reef you can see explosions of these colourful fish like a fireworks display on the reef. Every now and then tear your eyes away from the reef and look out for Sharks, Turtles and other big guys that cruise through here.
Save plenty of gas and bottom time for the top of the pinnacle which is not a small area. There is a bit of a sloped bowl shape to the top of this pinnacle and you will find plenty of subjects to watch or photograph here. Anemonefish, Lionfish and Christmas Tree Worms all inhabit the top of the pinn. Take time to look for Peacock nudis which munch their way around this pinnacle - stunning and real movers!
