Bruce Humby

Bruce Humby
Bruce began his diving career back in 1991 when the sport was still pre-nitrox, and Trimix was known as "Devil Gas". His initial training was with the British Sub-Aqua Club (BS-AC) where he qualified up to the level of Advanced Diver and Advanced Instructor. The attitude of the time toward Nitrox or mixed gas diving, however, did not put him off as he went on to complete Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox and Trimix courses with the International Association of Nitrox & Technical Divers (IANTD) between 1994 & 1996. It was also around 1994 that Bruce also completed his Divemaster course with PADI, but he sees his crowning glory as his CCR qualification. It was Feb 1999 when he qualified on the Ambient Pressure Diving Classic Rebreather, which he still dives to this day, albeit with a few modern upgrades. Back then the only training agency available to teach the rebreather was IANTD. At the time both PADI & BS-AC actively lobbied divers not to dive on rebreathers, due to the risk they were deemed to pose. Thankfully now, all of the training agencies will offer technical courses to their divers.

He has dived all around the world, including places as far flung as Shetland Isles, the Falkland Islands, the Solomon Islands, the Maldives and the Barrier reef.

Although Bruce is not an instructor, he does know the content of the courses we offer and can offer advice accordingly. He is also very knowledgeable with all our products and prides himself on offering you a balanced view of one item over another. His aim is to ensure you are buying the right product for you.

Before he came to New Zealand, he spent over 15 years diving the shipwrecks around the North of Scotland.  It is also somewhere he would love to dive again, so if you need insider knowledge on this area of the world, he's your man.

Wreck diving is his preference, so you will most likely see him on trips that involve wrecks. That said, he also enjoys the dives that have stunning underwater sceneries.

Just dont ask him to identify fish....
