Fourth Element Thermocline Ladies Shorts

The Fourth Element Thermocline Ladies Shorts provide focused lower-body thermal protection for women, designed to wear under a wetsuit or alone in warmer waters. They enhance core insulation for scuba, snorkelling, or surface sports, and pair well with a Thermocline vest or long-sleeve top to form a lightweight shortie suit. Equivalent to 2mm neoprene in warmth, these shorts are a smart alternative to board or swim shorts, as their close fit prevents riding up and adds extra layering for extended seasons in New Zealand's temperate areas. The high back design keeps them secure during paddling or swimming. Made from neoprene-free materials, the outer features 78% Econyl regenerated nylon from recycled waste like fishing nets, laminated with a waterproof polyurethane membrane and thermal fleece lining. The composition is face: 78% Econyl regenerated nylon / 22% elastane; back: 94% polyester / 6% elastane, balancing flexibility and eco credentials.

Lightweight and neutrally buoyant, the shorts are breathable, windproof, waterproof, and hypo-allergenic, suitable for neoprene allergy sufferers as a barrier or substitute. The fleece inner draws moisture from the skin to evaporate on the surface, while in water, the membrane holds a warm layer against the body to block colder currents. They dry fast—typically in an hour after rinsing—and pack compactly without damage, making them travel-ready.

Maintenance involves a 30°C machine wash, and they store without odour issues common to neoprene. Global Dive in Auckland, your trusted dive shop for over 20 years with expert training and stock, has these shorts available. Our team can advise on pairings for your dives, from local reefs to Poor Knights trips, emphasising sustainable gear that performs.
