Dive Newsletter - May 2008
Welcome to the May edition of your dive club's
newsletter.
The diving is awesome at the moment, with water
temps better in than out! Being
comfortable (and warm) just takes a bit of planning
and having
the "right tools for the job", like a snuggly
thermal undergarment to wear under your wetsuit (see
below),
or even better a drysuit. We've got some exciting
news
coming
on the drysuit front, but I won't spoil the surprise
just yet...
It's also the time that thoughts start to focus
on that mid-winter escape for that tropical dive
holiday. We've got a couple of trips in the pipeline
(see below), so if you're interested just let us
know. And remember that if you are thinking of planning
a dive trip anywhere overseas we can probably help
with your travel arrangements AND give you a dive
club discount on your dive bookings.

| Dive
club meeting |
As always the last Monday evening of every month
at Global Dive shop here in Westhaven from 6pm onwards.
Dive club meetings are strictly social events -
just a BBQ and a few drinks, and chance to chat
to some fellow divers looking for dive buddies (or
dive buddies with boats). Plus of course there's
the monthly guest speaker to inspire you on to great
things diving.
This month's dive club meeting is Monday
26 May.
This month's guest
speakers
John Scott will
be presenting Cave
Diving in the Yucatan with photographs
and video of the spectacular caves and rock formations
in the freshwater cenotes
of north east Mexico .
John started diving in the North East of England
in 1977as a BSAC diver until 1990 when he qualified
as PADI Dive Master. John studied underwater photography
for two years at a college in Plymouth, The Dive
Base - Fort Bovisand. He is an ex member of Plymouth
Cave Diving Group.
We also will be having a brief presentation by
Kimberly Muncaster,
CEO of Project Jonah (www.projectjonah.org.nz).
For those of you not familiar with this fantastic
cause,
Project Jonah's courses give people the
basic skills needed to rescue stranded dolphins
and whales. If you've ever seen images of mass
strandings on beaches and desperately wanted to
help (who hasn't) then you need to get involved.
It's a bit like being a Rescue Diver - you hope
you'll never need to use the skills you've learned,
but imagine the regret of not knowing those skills
when you really need them!!!
Upcoming club dates
Get organised, and get these dates into your
diary NOW!!!
- Monday 30 June
- Monday 28 July
- Monday 25 August

| Gear |
New Suunto D4 and
special deal on Suunto Mosquito
The all new Suunto D4 is now available, and we've
got one!!!
The Suunto D4 is an advanced wrist top dive computer
with intelligent free diving features.Constructed
from lightweight, composite material, the Suunto
D4 features a modernized and sleek design. And
it weighs in at just 85 grams, so it's not all
big and bulky when you're just out sipping lattes
about town or having a quick freedive (yes, this
machine even has a freedive mode).
The D4 replaces the Suunto Mosquito, and we have
two Mosquitos still in stock at the clearance
price of $695 (that's $400 off).
And don't forget that all Suunto dive computers
purchased through
an authorised NZ Suunto dealer (that's us) now
come with a 5 year/500 dive warranty.
Snuggly stuff
Nobody
goes skiing or boarding these days in jeans and
a woolly jumper (we'll there is always one isn't
there). Skiers and boarders realised long ago
that being warm is just about layering with the
right
materials and investing in good quality exposure
protection. Most divers still don't get this though
and struggle through winter cold and uncomfortable
- or worse just don't dive!
Don't let the chill of winter keep you away from
the best diving of the year. If you haven't already
tried an undergarment then you've got to check
this stuff out. Fourth Element gear even comes with
a 100% money back guarantee if you are not completely
satisfied. Plus, you can use this stuff not just
for diving, but kayaking, in the snow, whatever
you like!
Without question we are now NZ's premier dealer
for Fourth Element and Sharkskin undergarments
- you should see how much money we've spent on
stock!!! And we all use it now so can give you
the real deal on what works. Come in and get snuggly
with Andrew, Grant or Anna (your choice).
